Priority Population

TAIBU CHC will provide primary medical, mental, social, and wellbeing services to people living in the Malvern area who are experiencing barriers to accessing primary healthcare. With an emphasis on:

  • Children
  • Youth
  • Young Adults
  • Seniors

TAIBU CHC also has a complementary mandate to develop specialized health and social services for the Black community, which will result in the best practices to be used in other settings serving racialized and minoritized populations.

Health Promotions

According to the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion, a “CHARTER for action to achieve Health for All by the year 2000 and beyond,”1 health promotion is:

the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. To reach a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, an individual or group must be able to identify and to realize aspirations, to satisfy needs, and to change or cope with the environment. Health is, therefore, seen as a resource for everyday life, not the objective of living. Health is a positive concept emphasizing social and personal resources, as well as physical capacities. Therefore, health promotion is not just the responsibility of the health sector, but goes beyond healthy life-styles to well-being.2

TAIBU CHC provides community-wide programs that address the “social determinants of health.” That is those influences, conditions and practices that shapes the overall community’s health and underlie the well-being or illness that have an impact on one’s capacity to access resources and care.

TAIBU CHC’s mandate is to build individuals and community capacity through in-depth staffing, mentoring, learning, sharing, training, volunteer-coordination, personal development classes, groups and the opportunity for all members of the Malvern community to participate in CHC programs and, importantly, critical decision-making through our community-governed board of directors.
